Speaker Bios
Dr. Caleb Bazyler
Dr. Bazyler received his PhD in sport physiology and performance at ETSU where he served as the head of strength and conditioning and sports science for men’s and women’s tennis. He has worked in strength and conditioning for the last seven years and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. He is now an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation Management at East Tennessee State University. His research interests include tapering for strength-power and team sport athletes, maximal strength training, and athlete monitoring. |
Dr. Kevin Carroll
Dr. Carroll joined the Department of Sport, Exercise, Recreation, and Kinesiology in the Fall 2019 semester as an Assistant Professor. Prior to his current position, he was a tenure-track assistant professor at Montclair State University. He completed his doctoral and master’s degree work in Sport Physiology and Performance at ETSU. Dr. Carroll gained considerable experience in strength & conditioning throughout his education, which fuels his research and teaching style. His research aims to determine best practices for enhancing sport performance through resistance training. Additionally, he explores methodologies for monitoring fatigue and performance status throughout training and competitive periods in athletes. |
Dr. Brad DeWeese
Dr. Brad H. DeWeese is recognized as one of the most decorated coaches in the United States and within international elite sport as he has directed athletes to 7 World Championship titles in 3 different sports, while also collecting a combined 20 Olympic and World Championship medals, alongside 92 medals resulting from World Cup and Pan-American competitions. He is currently serving as a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation Management at ETSU where he also works as the Head Speed, Strength, & Performance coach at the ETSU U.S. Olympic Training Site for the sports of bobsled, skeleton, canoe/kayak, and individual athletes competing in luge, and track & field. Prior to ETSU, Brad served as the Head of Sport Physiology for the United States Olympic Committee's Winter Division based out of the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. Brad is one of the few coach-scientists in any sport to produce both medals and objective data/ scientific findings of the training process. As such, he has authored several articles and chapters on speed development, periodization, and optimal training methods leading to elite performance. Dr. DeWeese obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Western Carolina University, and his doctorate from North Carolina State University. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with Distinction through the NSCA, certified USATF Level 2 coach in sprints, hurdles, & relays; USATF Certified Instructor; USAW Sport Performance coach; and an ISAK Level 1 Anthropometrist. |
Dr. Mike Stone
Michael H. Stone PhD is currently the Exercise and Sports Science Laboratory Director and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at ETSU. Prior to joining ETSU he was the Head of Sports Physiology for the USOC. From 1999 through 2001 he was Chair of Sport at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Stone's service and research interests are primarily concerned with physiological and performance adaptations to strength/power training. Dr. Stone is also an adjunct professor at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, (Physiology), School of Medicine, Johnson City, TN. He has 200+ publications in reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to several texts in the areas of bioenergetics, nutrition, and strength/power training. Additionally, he has co-authored two textbooks dealing with strength and conditioning. Dr. Stone was the 1991 NSCA Sports Scientist of the Year and was awarded the NSCA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. He was the recipient of the ETSU award for Distinguish Research Faculty in 2008; and the 2010 recipient of the USOC Doc Councilman award for sports science/coaching service to weightlifting. He is a Fellow of the UKSCA and NSCA and is UKSCA (ASCC) and NSCA certified (CSCS). He has coached several international and national level weightlifters (including one Olympian) and throwers in both the United States and Great Britain. |

Travel & Accommodation
If you are coming from out of town for the Coaches College, the closest airport to us is the Tri-Cities Regional Airport, located in Blountville, Tennessee (about 20 min away). This is a small regional airport, with on-site car rental or Taxi service. Uber also now serves the Tri-Cities!
The conference will be held at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport, TN. It is a full service conference center, hotel and has its own parking garage. Guests of the conference can get a special rate by making reservations on or before November 13 for $105/night.
