Masters Students
Nicole Grupp Nikki is a second year Master's student in the Applied Sport Science and Coach Education program at ETSU. She is from Jacksonville, Florida and completed her B.S in Exercise Science at ETSU. She is currently on the Women's Softball team at ETSU, finishing up her 5th year! She has experience coaching at youth level, and has had the chance to intern at ETSU during her undergraduate years, where she had the honor to work with Olympic and collegiate athletes. She is currently working with the Softball team as well. Her goal is to be able to work with elite level athletes using the knowledge sports science has given her to enhance performance and minimalize risk of injury. |
Trader Flora Trader is a second year Master's Student in the Applied Sport Science Program at ETSU. Originally from Topsail, NC, Trader has lived in Appalachia for the last several years. Most recently, he earned his B.S. in Exercise Science from King University, where he was also a captain on the baseball team. Prior to his time at King, Trader spent two years studying at Appalachian State University, where he was a member of the baseball program as well. Currently, Trader works with the Men's and Women's Volleyball teams at Milligan University. Trader's interests lie in the applied field - he aspires to bring the evidence-based approaches he studies, paired with a data driven training focus, to the strength and conditioning industry as a practitioner. Currently, Trader consults with Total Motion Performance - a company he helped create, centered in Blacksburg, VA. |
Marten Baur Marten Baur is a first-year master's student at ETSU in the Applied Sport Science and Coach Education program. marten is from Lander, Wyoming, and he completed his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Wyoming. With a passion for weightlifting, Marten was drawn to ETSU's highly respected sport science program to better serve the athletes he works with. After graduating, Marten hopes to coach weightlifting at all levels. |
Benjamin Burke Benjamin is a second-year master's student in the Applied Sport Science program. After spending his childhood in a Cambodian orphanage, Benjamin returned to the United States to pursue an education. He earned his B.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science from East Tennessee State University, deciding to stay at ETSU to pursue his master's degree. After a life of interest in strength and power sports, Benjamin was introduced to the Powerlifting Club at ETSU. He joined the club, became a competitive powerlifter, and is now on scholarship with the Powerlifting Team. His interest in strength and power sports has guided his undergraduate research project, is currently directing his master's thesis, and will continue to be at the forefront of his future research ventures. |

Kendra Whitehurst
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Kendra is a 1st Year Master student in the Sport Science and Coach's Education Program, concentrating in Applied Sport Science. Kendra also attended her undergraduate studies at ETSU while competing in track and field for all of her eligibility. With the aspirations of strength and conditioning and sports performance, Kendra is currently working with ETSU Womens Basketball for that role.
